My name is Nick Bauer and I am the President and Founder of FCP Groton. I started out in the automotive parts industry at an early age working at my parents local import specialist store in Groton, CT. After 15 years in the industry I am now an expert in all aspects of the Automotive Aftermarket consisting of product procurement, cataloging, pricing, vendor relations, quality control, and warehouse distribution.
I attended the University of Connecticut from 1998-2000 and played on the Division 1 golf team aiming to get a degree in Finance. While in college, I started listing products from my parents store on Ebay for supplemental income. Immediately it became more than a part time hobby and I made the tough choice to forgo my final two years of college and focus the new web business I had created. Within one year, the sales from the website and Ebay had surpassed the my parents store and FCP Groton, LLC was established as a separate company where I had a stake in the ownership.
My first key hire came 2002 when I brought on board Scott Drozd. Between 2002 and 2007, we were able to increase sales 5x with Scott focusing his attention to sales on Ebay while I focused my attention to cataloging of products along with sourcing products from manufacturers rather than distributors and grew from 2 employees to 6. In 2008, we moved out of our original home and moved 30 miles south to Old Saybrook CT, where we increased our space by 10,000 Square feet along with adding on 10 new employees. The following year, we needed ran out of space an tacked on another 12,000 square feet to our lease leaving us at just under 26,000 square feet and added another 15 employees. At the start of 2011, we stand at just over 50 Employees and have turned this one time small company into one of the emerging growth companies in CT. Currently I spend my time at FCP heading the development of our own custom on line catalogs and the sourcing of our products needed to increase our product offerings.
In September 2010 I made my first international trip to Germany to attend one of the world’s largest automotive trade shows; Automechanika. That show has led to many new contacts and increased our product range tremendously. In February of 2011, I will be traveling to Japan to visit with a few of our largest international customers to help increase our international footprint. More international trips will be scheduled over the next few years international trade is proving to be one of our fastest growing segments of the company.
When I’m not at FCP, I enjoy spending my time outdoors playing golf, fishing, skiing or can be found on the Long Island Sound or Connecticut River on my boat.
