New York International Auto Show Coverage (NYIAS) from FCP (Photos)

Yesterday a few of us FCP Folk ventured out to the big city to attend the New York International Auto Show, It’s a very shiny place, with lots of new shiny things. It’d be very distracting for a fish. But we’re not fish, and we’ve worked up a few goodies for you.

Below you can see dozens of photos we took to cover the event, and tomorrow you can expect an action packed video for you to end your week on. Enjoy.

Honda decided to take the LED light strip full circle

Whole lot of red going on over here

There's something I love about that bikini top

The Mini Yachtsman for Men who drive Yachts, especially at $250k

These wheels were HUGE, mid thigh huge

I can't get over the duck tail spoiler thing, your thoughts?

I think VW pulled out some big guns on the new beetle design, a fantastic profile and TDI makes quite the package for me

We had a thing for the brakes at this show, they always seemed to slow us down

Acura, what the hell, I'd rather see the NSX under the sheet than your sedan, it's like you tucked it away under a shadow. I'm very disappointed in you.

A whole lot of triangles going on, and it looks like the hood is constantly popped.

This paint job is fantastic.

I think those brakes are bigger than most wheels.

"Excuse me sir, but would you like to include glass insurance?" - "Yes, yes I would"

It was raining in the Land Rover exhibit, so we decided not to go over.

The Most Disappointing Cars of 2011

CNN Money pulled out the big guns with this one and gave us quite the list of 2011 flops.  But, their descriptions were a little dull too, so Tony and I jazzed them up, enjoy!

2011 has had some notable high-profile flops: American Airlines, Coke’s white can, numerous Republican presidential candidates, the Boston Red Sox. More than a few automakers can add their names to the list. In a year when U.S. car sales staged a modest recovery, a number of nameplates with high expectations wilted in the showroom. To one of them must go the title of “Most Disappointing Car of the Year.” We’ll get to that, but first ten other cars worthy of dishonorable mention.

#11 Fiat 500

There were a few things that held up Fiat’s entry into the US.  For one, the dealers were slower than a line at the DMV, an ad campaign featuring J. Lo flopped worse than a sumo wrestler at a high dive competition, and decent gas prices made it an easy decision to ignore this toy car. Reviewers were tougher: Edmunds.com complained about “The reliability of a crack head; the fuel economy of a car without wheels and enough cargo room to hold a pack of hot dogs.” CEO Sergio Marchionne wasted little time replacing Fiat’s top U.S. executive with an elementary school graduate, but the damage was done. Instead of selling 50,000 cars this year, Fiat had moved only 17,444 through November. Fiat might as well turn around with their tail between their legs.

BMW Looks Beyond to the Laser-y Future

It’s reported that Dr. Evil has started his first day at BMW’s Munich headquarters, and he’s ordered an army of sedans with laser beams on their heads.

Engadget reports these beams will be ready “within a few years,” and that the updated beams boast an intensity a thousand times greater than their forebearers, all while consuming less than half the power, which would obviously give those limited range EV drivers a little more bang for their kWh.
