With Hurricane Sandy nipping at our heels we thought it might be a good time to remember the hard work that went into our preparation and execution during last years Hurricane Irene, which struck our area in September of 2011 leaving us without powe
r for just over a week. But, we’re even more prepared this year with our remote call center and alternative warehouses.
So we’re not closing up shop this year either, and if these photos from Irene show anything, it’s the undeniable dedication of our team. Here’s proof that if you keep those calls and orders coming, we’ll keep the parts coming.
The power has long since been out, but the building is surrounded by generators powering the computer system and call center. All orders make it out.
Careful not to trip the call center works under daylight only, as the power from the generators is occupied by the phone and computer systems.
Our power outage was caused by a flooded power station and down power lines. It took 8 days to get full power back.
Unfortunately some of our call center employees don’t have the luxury of sunlight, but they still plug away, dedicated to helping all the customers they can.
The phones work but the lights don’t, our wholesale team doesn’t skip a beat getting all their orders out.
Our warehouse team works with what little sunlight they have, and with the assistance of headlamps are able to locate pick every order that came in over that long week.
Some employees thought it was easier to read the white, reflective location labels in the beam of the headlamp.
Even in the dark our receiving takes in shipments and re-stocks the shelves of the warehouse. Their eyes eventually adjust.
Our packing department keeps on trucking through, with only one operating computer they’re still able to get out every order that came in that week.
This is the result of a whole teams dedication to their customers. Packages ready to be shipped out and deliverred sit in the dark, just like everyone else.
Our team works very hard, but it’s not unappreciated. Nobody goes home hungry this whole week.
